About This Project

Dowdle Construction completed the 6,585-square-foot build-out for Sushi-San’s Nashville location inside Ashwood 12 South, the city’s new mixed-use retail, dining, and office destination. This marks the brand’s first location outside Chicago. Dowdle transformed the space into a full-service dining experience, featuring seating for up to 158 guests, including an 8-seat sushi bar, a 24-seat bar and lounge, a main dining room, a 12-seat private dining room, and an outdoor patio.

The construction showcases custom millwork throughout, venetian plaster, a variety of unique floor and wall tiling, stained wood flooring, and operable glass sliders from Luxview—a high-end custom fabricator based in Middle Tennessee. Dowdle worked alongside the Remick Architecture and Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises teams to capture Sushi-San’s signature vibe: a dimly lit, stylish interior with Japanese-inspired décor and a touch of old-school hip-hop.

Sushi-San is celebrated for serving the freshest fish, paired with one of the most robust sake and Japanese whisky programs in the country. Guests can take a seat at the sushi counter and watch the mastery of the sushi chefs, led by Master Sushi Chef Kaze Chan. A standout feature is the walk-up soft-serve window, offering rotating flavors like Hokkaido Vanilla and Pineapple Whip, alongside desserts by Netflix School of Chocolate winner Juan Gutierrez—making the Nashville location both a culinary and social destination for the 12 South community.
