The Principal’s Update – March 2022
The pandemic alone would have made it a crazy couple of years in Nashville. But on top of that, the city is still recovering from two tragic incidents: the March 2020 tornado and the 2020 Christmas Day bombing downtown.
Much of the tornado damage has been repaired, and the site of the devastating bombing on Second Avenue is slowly making a comeback as well. In addition to ensuring the impacted buildings get the repairs necessary to re-open, the city has allocated funding to build out the corridor into a more pedestrian-friendly area for dining and shopping.
Our firm is proud to have even a small part in this revitalization of Second Ave. as we put the finishing touches on the repair and renovation of a Nashville favorite, Coyote Ugly.
Along with three other tenants’ spaces within the building, the roughly 6,000-square-foot bar was damaged due to the blast and needed substantial repairs. In the process, the owners also decided to bring in a designer, Remick Moore, to put in new finishes, including a mirror behind the 100-foot-long bar, an all-new retail area and casework, VIP banquettes, murals on several walls and an Instagram-able photo wall near the signature Coyote Ugly truck bed.
The owners hope to re-open the bar in late April.
Many of the buildings along Second Avenue are historic, dating back to the 1800s, and the goal has been to preserve as much of the original facades as possible while also creating something new and exciting. Adaptive reuse and hospitality construction are two of our specialties, so we were thrilled to have the opportunity to add this project to our portfolio and to help bring this vibrant corridor back to life.
These buildings and businesses went through something catastrophic, and I think I speak for the whole city when I say that we’re excited to see them return better than before.
