Spread Market & Larder

Spread Market & Larder is a neighborhood market with a selection of grocery items, homemade bread, daily sandwiches and grab-and-go snacks, beer and cider.  The market is located at 1330 5th Avenue North in a 1920s home in Germantown that was converted into a retail space designed by Smith Gee Studio. The renovation included a 366-square-foot addition for a total of 1,988 square feet of space.

The tenants took great care to preserve the house while converting it into a space where all its neighbors are welcome, and provides Germantown with a unique stop for specialty food items.

The exterior facade was updated with a fresh coat of paint, but otherwise left as is. Inside, the house’s original floors and bead boards were left intact, and the original door frames and molding were reused throughout the space. Locally made tables and shelving display pre-packaged goods, including artisan olive oil, tinned fish and spices sourced from around the world.
