Construction of New Central BBQ Location Is Complete

Dowdle Construction Group repurposed former Sportsman’s Grille space in Hillsboro Village

Dowdle Construction Group announced today that it has completed construction of a new Central BBQ location in Hillsboro Village. Dowdle renovated the approximately 5,300-square-foot restaurant space at 1601 21st Ave., formerly home to Sportsman’s Grille. The renovation was designed by Lauren Miller-Wilmoth with Smith Gee and engineered by Genesis Engineering Group.

Central BBQ is a Memphis-based restaurant that opened its first Nashville location in 2019 in the Capitol View development. The new location in Hillsboro Village also has space to handle off-site catering, delivery and private events.

“This project allowed us to combine our expertise in hospitality construction and repurposing older buildings,” said Dowdle President and Principal Glynn Dowdle. “It’s been a privilege to help bring a second location of this Memphis staple to Nashville.”

Central BBQ is expected to open the new location tomorrow, May 11, 2021.

“Dowdle Construction Group has been great to work with, they are responsible for building out other Nashville restaurant favorites, so we knew they would be perfect for this job,” said Craig Blondis, co-founder of Central BBQ. “The space is looking great, and we are excited to get Central BBQ Hillsboro up and running.”

Dowdle has completed renovations and build-outs for a number of Nashville restaurants, including The Dogwood, Adele’s, Martin’s BBQ in SoBro and Blanco Cocina + Cantina in the new Fifth + Broadway development.

This announcement appeared in the Tennessean, the Nashville Post and Main Street Nashville.
